A collection of selected writings for the Avondhu newspaper. Jim Lysaght shares stories about Fermoy and the surrounding areas, its people, history and nature.

"A man of many talents and pastimes, Jim Lysaght has shared his love of all things nature-related with readers of The Avondhu newspaper every week over the past four decades by virtue of his Young Naturalists Quiz, Film Review, Film and TV Quiz and his 'A walk on the wild side' column. Thank you Jim for sharing your vast knowledge with young and old of us." Liam Howard, Founder of the Avondhu newspaper

Excerpt from the book

"As I looked out across Cahills Bogs, I could see Corrin Cross standing out on the skyline. I could hardly believe that it was more than five months ago that I stood there as we welcomed in the New Year. But as the old saying goes, time and tide wait for no man. At the Kilnock side of the bog, I could just make out the little field where many years ago we used to meet an old man who drew water from the spring well there. A more contented man I never met, with his donkey and cart and his duidin of a pipe; he always had time to stop and talk to us. I do not remember his name, but I know someone who reads this column every week who may recall him."
